On December 11, 2000, Laura Shidal is hired as the Educational Ranger for the forest. Despite a lack of staff, she immediately begins work on several necessary improvements on the property. After reviewing the most pressing needs, Ranger Shidal begins improving the boundary markings for the property, ordering signs, fixing a main gate, and contacting the Department of Transportation about repairing a border fence.
